Project Objective

Product Master Implementation and integration with ORMS.

Project Description

In an ongoing approach to strategic development SuperValu embarked on the path of exploring GDS and MDM out of this enterprise product information and collaboration. The scope and benefit of this project was to address the business need for internal item data alignment and external item data synchronization. They have about 11 item master systems which were a compilation of systems resulting from the different acquisitions and mergers that have taken place over the years. Their Item Repository was to be a foundational data system that fed information to people and systems across the enterprise.  The overall benefit is that customer, vendor, supplier and item information would be stored and maintained in one location (MDM) and fed to all the various downstream systems that require master data. This would eliminate duplication of effort (item maintenance), confusion about the source of item information, and overall streamlining of all processes that use item information. The goal of this implementation is to improve productivity, provide value add on a continual basis, utilize workflow, minimize impact to Legacy applications, Incorporate Data synchronization, Seamless business processes all around item data, adherence to bias towards industry/UCC (Uniform Code counsel)/Global standards, avoid data redundancy, minimize development impact on existing legacy and support their multiple hierarchies (2 level, 6 level, Legacy, Consumer Decision etc.).

Role and Responsibilities

·   Initiating, architecting and controlling end-to-end message flow choreography in terms of Notification (CIN), Subscription (CIS) and Confirmation (CIC) between Data pools (1Sync and WWRE) and Suppliers.

·   Monitoring and governing complete system functionalities of WPC in-terms of administration, performance tuning, patch installation, Application server/data base server health check, log analysis, system status check, DB health check, Analyzing DB statistics and schemas periodically.

·   Integration of EPIC with ORMS (Oracle Retail Merchandising System), Web services, TIBCO, Legacy systems and parallel business critical applications.

·   Designing and Implementing JMS Queue for item data transfer to and fro to subsidiary systems from WPC.

·   Generating reports for Distribution Center, Corporate Items, Price Maintenance, Stores and Inventory systems in support to specific data format (XML, CSV, Fixed width, delimited, EDI etc.).

·   Handling day-to-day transaction of almost 800,000 item data, to and fro migration to Legacy systems, generating reports out of synchronized data for downstream systems, vendors and distributors.

·   Cataloging, categorizing and mapping of legacy item data into a synchronized structure as per consumers preference and maintaining the product Information Management (PIM) repository for effective flow of CIN/CIC/CIS messages across suppliers and data pools in the GDSN (Global Data Synchronization Network) framework.

·   Defining standards and best practices of WPC scripting to get value added result across technical members to bring them under the same umbrella unified approach.
